Introduction to Esthetic Smile Makeover

Esthetic dental procedures have gained significant popularity over the years, as more and more people seek to improve the appearance of their teeth and smiles.

Patient examination & photography

First part of the end-to-end treatment presentation, we will take a closer look at the steps that include examination, treatment planning, and smile design; as they form the foundation for the mock-up, possible long-term temps, and permanent restoration.

Treatment planning & Smile Design

Now it is time to start the Treatment planning, to take the patient's needs and wishes and weigh them against what is possible from a medical, and financial point of view. When considering the possibilities, it helps to have a common picture to elaborate around. Different types of restorations and the level of complexity can be presented to the patient by showing variations based on a Smile Design.

Once the TRIOS scan and the correct photographs are taken, it is now possible to design a smile using various tooth libraries.

What to send to lab

To give the laboratory the best possibility to create a Mock-up based on the photographs and the TRIOS scan everything has to be shared with the laboratory. That also includes detailed instructions which can be added to the Order form.

Creating a mock-up

This section of the end-to-end treatment presentation aims to provide a guide to the steps involved in creating a mock-up that can be used to show the patient the planned restoration attached to their teeth.

Designing mock-up

In this chapter, we will look at all the steps that the lab will perform to design the Mock-up. Starting with verification of the case details in Dental Manager.

Production and shipping

In this chapter, we will look at the steps that the lab will perform to produce and ship the model. Starting with producing the model and creating a vacuum formed tray.

Presenting mock-up to the patient

Presenting a digital wax-up or a physical mock-up to a patient involves using visual aids and models to demonstrate the proposed changes to their smile or dental restoration. Here's a step-by-step process of how a mock-up can be presented to a patient:

Scanning and ordering the restoration

Referring to the mock-up, we have now arrived at a design conclusion and received approval from the patient.

Considering the severity of the case and it level of complexity, we now have the opportunity to determine whether the prosthetic design should take the form of a permanent restoration, a long-term temporary solution, or a prototype.

Production of the prototype, long-term temp, and final restoration

After the proposal of the mock-up has been accepted by the patient and the Doctor, the teeth are then prepared and then this information is sent to the lab to produce the temporary, prototype or final restoration.

Delivery

Once the fabrication of the prosthetic restoration is finished, it is brought to your practice for cementation. During the delivery procedure, there are specific clinical guidelines to observe when assessing the restoration.
