Introduction

In this Fundamentals of Digital Dentures course, we will examine the most important technical considerations that determine your workflows in the dental laboratory when designing digital dentures using 3Shape Dental system.

The Assembly Types

When talking about assembly type, we are referring to the different elements that will be produced to make the final denture such as the denture base and teeth or a combination of the two. The selection of the assembly type, essentially, determines which elements are in the CAM output for manufacturing, which we will cover later in the course.

CAM Output

Generation of the CAM output is required in order to transform the design done in Dental System, into file types that the manufacturing machine (milling machine or 3D printer etc.) CAM software is used for the production of the designed elements.

3Shape Dental System is an open CAD system and can generate CAM outputs in various file types such as .STL or .3mf but also in manufacturer-specific file formats (e.g. CAM5 for Ivoclar).

Control Panel Settings

Control panel settings, which may need to adjusted depending on how you wish to produce the dentures or streamline your design process, can be configured.

Digital Denture Teeth Libraries

Currently a quite wide range of Smile Libraries intended for Denture design are available for downloading in 3Shape download center, and this number is constantly growing. Some of the libraries are available for downloading without any limitations, while others require activation by 3Shape support or reseller.
