"Exception TPen in module ModelBuilder.exe" in ModelBuilder

This error may occur in Model Builder, most commonly during the "Preparing Model" step.

Error message:

“Exception TPen in module ModelBuilder.exe”

Cause

This error is typically caused by poor scan quality, including:

• Holes in the scan mesh.
• Scan artifacts or irregular surfaces.
• Poorly trimmed scan edges.

Resolution

Step 1: Return to the "Prepare scans" step.

Step 2: Use the "Wax Knife" tool to smooth holes and rough areas of the scan.

Step 3: Trim rough edges and remove areas containing holes or scan artifacts.

Step 4: If the scan cannot be repaired sufficiently in Model Builder, repair it using ShapeDesigner or another mesh editing application (for example, Meshmixer).

Step 5: If the scan quality is too poor to repair, acquire a new scan and restart the workflow..
