[INTERNAL] Implant Studio 2026.1: New Features & Improvements, Bugs Overview and Resolution-copy-233
Overview
The 2026.1 release of Implant Studio introduces several important changes and new functionalities that impact workflows and troubleshooting.
Key updates include:
-
Multi-Unit Abutment (MUA) Support
Users can now plan cases with MUAs directly in Implant Studio. This is essential for full-arch restorations (e.g., All-on-4/All-on-6) and improves predictability in prosthetic alignment.Multi-Unit Abutments Appear in Dental Designer
Check this internal article to understand how to process the Implant Studio order with MUAs in Dental Designer.
-
Implant Parallelism Tool
A new tool allows precise control of implant and restorative axes, reducing manual adjustments and ensuring consistent alignment across multiple implants. -
Improved Screw-Retained Crown Workflow
The design process for screw-retained crowns has been streamlined, eliminating previous workarounds and reducing time spent on iterative steps. -
CT Preparation Module Removed
All previous CT Preparation functionality is now integrated into Implant Studio. -
Dental System Integration for MUA Cases
Output files now include scans with abutment platform coordinates, which can be imported into Dental System for restoration design.
Important!
To continue abutment design in Dental System, you need to create a new case in Dental Manager and import the new scan from the Implant Studio output.
The reason for this is that if you continue working in a case received through the Communicate portal, or import a .3oxz case from Implant Studio into Dental System, or if the case was created in Dental Manager for an integrated workflow with Implant Studio, then by default the system will use the scan with implant information for abutment placement - not the abutment platform data.
That’s why you should always create a new case and import only the scan that contains the abutment platform information.
-
Updated Implant Library Settings Page
The settings page now includes a status indicator for libraries and a dedicated tab for abutments, improving clarity when troubleshooting missing components.
Multi-Unit Abutments
We’re excited to introduce Multi-Unit Abutment (MUA) support in our implant planning software — an enhancement for clinicians planning complex implant restorations.
- Streamlined Full-Arch Restorative Planning: Simplifies workflows for advanced treatments such as All-on-4 and All-on-6
- Perfect Implant Parallelism: Easily parallelize implant or restorative axes
- Dental System Integration with MUA Data: Scans containing abutment platform coordinates are included in the output of MUA cases. These can be imported into the Dental System to finalize the restoration design — import the scan, select the corresponding library and components, and proceed with the design.
Multi-Unit Abutment Workflow Video
Please watch the detailed video instructions on Multi-Unit Abutment workflow (the written instructions are provided below).
Step-by-Step Workflow for MUA Cases
- Create a new case in Implant Studio.
- Select the Implant Studio workflow (you can now see which multi-unit abutment libraries are installed).

- Import the required scans for your case.
- Select and place implants compatible with MUAs during the Implant Planning step. You can filter for implants with abutments available (the MUA button remains inactive until compatible implants are selected).

- Select and place the desired MUA type from the library during implant planning.

- Adjust for parallelism by fine-tuning the angle for optimal restorative alignment.

- After "Save to Folder" in Produce, a new file is available.

- It contains the platform positions of any abutments that have been placed.

Platform positions are stored in the file along with the surface scan ↓

- To continue in Dental System, the user can create a case and import the surface scan with platform locations in Dental System. There are already existing libraries in the Dental System with the platform part of the abutments from different manufacturers. The users have to find the correct ones to use themselves. The components will then be placed at the locations stored along with the surface scan.

⚠️ Direct integration with Dental System, allowing customers to import cases seamlessly, will be released with IS future updates/patches.
Updated Implant Library Settings Page
The Implant Library settings page has been enhanced to improve clarity and usability.
Key updates include:
- Library Status Indicator – A new Status column has been added, allowing users to quickly verify whether each implant library is installed and available for use.
- New Abutments Tab – An additional tab now displays all available abutment libraries, providing a clearer overview and simplifying navigation when selecting components for restorative workflows.
- Improved Organization – Libraries are now grouped more intuitively across Implants and guided sleeves, Universal Sleeves, and Abutments tabs.

Implant Parallelism Tool
- The new parallelism tool provides precise control over implant and restorative axes.
- Clinicians can now adjust implant angulation more efficiently, ensuring alignment consistency across multiple implants.
- This feature is particularly useful in full-arch treatments, where several implants must be parallel to support a multi-unit bar or bridge.
- The alignment tool significantly reduces manual adjustment time and ensures more predictable restorative outcomes.
The alignment tool ensures the parallelization of the restorative axis
Improved Screw-Retained Crown Workflow
Implant Studio 2026.1 introduces a major improvement to the screw-retained crown (SRC) workflow, making the process more flexible and efficient for users.
In earlier versions, customers faced two common issues when combining implant planning with SRC design:
-
Approval Block:
- SRC design could only start after implant planning was approved. If the selected implant did not have a compatible T-Base, an error appeared. Since planning was locked, users could not change the implant without restarting the case. The workaround was to copy the case, remove approval, and start over — a time-consuming process.
-
No Implant Adjustments After Approval:
- If customers wanted to adjust implant positions during SRC design, they couldn’t because the planning was locked. Again, the only option was to copy the case and redo everything from scratch.

What’s New in IS 2026.1
- The approval step for implant planning has been moved to the end of the workflow. This means:
- Users can freely switch between implant planning and SRC design without restarting the case.
- The workflow is now smoother and iterative, saving time and reducing errors.

CT Preparation Module Removal
The CT Preparation module has been removed in Implant Studio 2026.1

All previous CT Preparation functionality is now fully integrated into the Implant Studio module:

Trios All-on-X vs MUA in Implant Studio
| TRIOS All-on-X | MUA in Implant Studio |
|---|---|
| Restorative scanning workflow — patient already has implants | Surgical planning workflow — patient does NOT yet have implants |
|
TrueAbutments = partner-manufacturer specialized metal scan bodies designed for All-on-X restorative workflows.
|
Patient has no implants in the mouth yet → all implants are planned virtually.
