Post-processing is performed after the scanning stage is complete, when the scanner is no longer moving. The processing time depends primarily on the PC hardware, scan settings, and the scanned object.

Possible Cause: PC does not meet the system requirements

If the PC does not meet the recommended system requirements—particularly the graphics card requirements—post-processing performance may be significantly reduced. In some cases, an error message may also appear during scanning or post-processing.

Resolution

  • Verify that the PC meets the latest Dental System hardware requirements.
  • Consult the latest PC catalog provided by your reseller or the Dental System User Manual.

Possible Cause: Insufficient GPU memory

In Dental System 2019 and later, post-processing may still be slow even when the "Prefer GPU triangulation" option is enabled.

This can occur if:

  • The graphics card does not have sufficient video memory.
  • Other applications are consuming GPU memory, causing triangulation to fall back to the CPU.

Resolution

  • Verify that the installed graphics card meets the recommended system requirements.
  • Close other GPU-intensive applications before scanning.
  1. Post-processing is slow even if 'Prefer GPU triangulation' setting is enabled in SID-2019
Root cause: not enough video memory available (either the GPU RAM is less then recommended, or other applications are using GPU RAM), so triangulation falls back to CPU.
Solution: make sure that a GPU that meets system requirements is installed and no other application consuming a lot of GPU memory are in use together with SID.
  2. Auto-adaptive scanning is enabled.

Possible Cause: Adaptive scanning is enabled

Adaptive scanning captures additional scan data to improve scan quality. As a result, both scanning and post-processing take longer. The more adaptive scanning iterations configured, the longer the processing time. Adaptive scanning can be adjusted in ScanIt Dental settings.

Additional Recommendations

  • Place the scanned object in the center of the scan interface plate.
  • Spray reflective or shiny objects (such as metal restorations) before scanning.
  • Change the scan mode from "Details" to "Speed" in ScanIt Dental settings, if appropriate.
  • Disable texture scanning if texture information is not required.
